Ingredients: Any type of red juice or fruit punch (we used pomegranate juice, clear lemon lime soda

Step 1: Pour the red juice into an empty ice cube tray and freeze.

Step 2: When the ice cubes are frozen, pour some lemon lime soda into a clear glass.

Step 3: Put frozen juice cubes into the soda.  When the ice begins to melt it will make fiery streaks in the clear pop.

Serve anything fthe colour red  for lunch for this theme day (like tomato soup).

Dalmatian Dogs/ Wrapped Hot Dogs:

Wrap wieners with refrigerated dough for Pigs in a Blanket.  Mix as many different food colourings as you have together in a small bowl to create a black and paint spots on the dough using a Q-tip.  Bake the hot dogs in the oven according to the package instructions.

Fire Alarm (or not) Chili:

Make your favourite chili recipe hot like a fire or not as your children may prefer. This recipe for Black Bean Chili with Avocado Salsa is a hit in my house, especially served with nachos.

Fire fighters are known as being good cooks because when they stay at the fire house they cook for each other.  I often see our local firefighters shopping for food at my favourite grocery store. In that spirit, you and your children can cook whatever you like, or you can try some of these ideas inspired by fire and red fire trucks!

Easy Homemade Salsa (Hot or Not):

Serve some corn chips and salsa to represent the heat of fire for this theme day. You can make your own salsa by following the instructions below or buy your favourite store bought salsa in mild or hot, whatever your kids like.  My boys like it HOT!

Ingredients: Tomatoes (I used about 5 large tomatoes from my garden), a quarter of an onion, a handful of cilantro, half a bell pepper (any colour) chopped, juice of 1 lime, ½ tsp cumin, ½ tsp salt, and 1 (or less or none) jalapeno pepper chopped.

Step 1: Roughly chop the large vegetables so they fit in your food processor (or finely chop all by hand if you don’t have a food processor).

Step 2: Add all ingredients to the food processor.  Pulse to chop.  Watch as you do this to get it to the consistency you like.

Step 3: Enjoy with corn chips! Yum!

Dalmatian Spotted Cookies or Cup Cakes:

Bake your favourite cup cakes or sugar cookies and then ice with white icing.  After they are iced put chocolate chips in them as Dalmatian dots.
